Dyson’s Spot+Scrub AI: Meet The Robot That Won’t Move On Until the Stain Is Gone

On 21 January 2026, Dyson quietly dropped a not-so-quiet announcement on Instagram: the Dyson Spot+Scrub AI robot vacuum cleaner is officially here – and it’s doing something no robot cleaner has convincingly pulled off before.

Because this isn’t just a robot that vacuums. It doesn’t simply mop. It detects stains, identifies what they are, decides how to clean them, checks its own work – and goes back again if it’s not satisfied. Inspiring, frankly.

A Robot That Sees What You Don’t

The biggest leap forward is Dyson’s AI stain detection system, which uses a precisely angled blade of high-contrast green light to reveal invisible spills, dried-on residue and fine dust that the naked eye misses.

Unlike white illumination, Dyson says this green light is “engineered to be gentle on sensitive eyes”, making it child- and pet-safe – a small but telling detail that speaks to how this robot is designed for real homes, not just showroom floors.

Behind the scenes, an HD camera combined with on-device AI visually inspects surfaces and identifies over 190 objects, household substances and hidden stains, adapting its cleaning behaviour in real time. As Dyson explains it, “Identifies and deep cleans stains using AI, ensuring no mess is missed. Even recleans tough spots until fully removed.” This before-and-after image processing is what truly sets the robot apart. It doesn’t assume success – it verifies it. We were first teased with the Spot+Scrub AI at Dyson’s annual ‘Dyson Unveiled’ event in Berlin on 4 September 2025, where the company’s world-renown eponymous founder James Dyson added, “When it goes over a stain, a dried on stain, it looks to see whether it’s cleaned it or not. So it takes a picture of it, and compares it with the image when it went over. So it goes back and forth over the stain until it’s removed it. And it’s the only robot which does this. The others just quite happily wash the floor and leave a stain.”

Edge-to-Edge, Literally

Missed corners are a common frustration with robot vacuums, but Dyson tackles this head-on.

Using sensors, the roller automatically extends 40mm when it detects an edge, allowing it to clean right up to walls and skirting boards. Combined with rotating side brushes, the robot reaches into tight spaces around furniture legs and corners – the places dust quietly thrives.

Wet and Dry, Without Ruining Your Rugs

The Spot+Scrub AI doesn’t just switch modes – it thinks between them. When carpets are detected, the AI system raises the wet roller by 10mm to avoid soaking fibres, while boosting suction power by up to 4x for a deeper clean.

Powered by an 18,000 Pa motor, the robot captures microscopic dust, allergens and pet dander, while a chevron-designed anti-tangle silicone roller helps remove long hair with minimal wrap-around (a win for anyone shedding more than their dog).

Dyson’s hygienic cyclonic dock might be the most underrated hero of the system. It doesn’t just recharge the robot – it self-empties, self-cleans, refills and recharges automatically. Using 10 Dyson cyclones, dry debris is removed hygienically without bags, maintaining consistent suction power.

The dock stores up to 100 days of dirt, with double hygiene filtration capturing particles as small as 0.1 microns – impressive, especially for allergy-prone households. There’s even a 45°C hot air drying cycle for the wet roller, eliminating damp environments where bacteria can thrive.
