The New Cure For A Resting Bitch Face

The days of simply owning your Resting B*tch Face (RBF) might be numbered—because surgeons are now offering tech-driven treatments to “fix” it. Whether you call it RBF, Ozempic Face, or just a misunderstood expression, cosmetic clinics are seeing a surge in patients looking to soften their accidental scowls.

According to Dr David Turer, a Pittsburgh-based plastic surgeon speaking at the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery’s annual meeting, there’s been a noticeable uptick in clients seeking facial tweaks as a result of rapid weight loss from GLP-1 injections (like Ozempic). “There is a real surge in demand more generally too for cosmetic surgery because of GLP-1s,” Turer told MailOnline.

The look—sunken cheeks, sagging skin, downturning mouths—has become so widespread it’s coined a new aesthetic category. Washington-based facial plastic surgeon Dr Michael Somenek explained: “You lose volume, you lose support, and the corners of the mouth start turning down… people interpret it as sad, and in some cases even angry.”

The solution? A combination of neuromodulators (think Botox), biostimulators like Sculptra, and fat grafting. Botox is being strategically used on muscles like the DAO (that’s depressor anguli oris for the skincare nerds), which pulls the mouth corners downward. Targeting that muscle can literally turn your frown upside down. “It actually lifts up the corners of the mouth quite nicely,” Somenek said whilst speaking to Emily Stearn from MailOnline.

Biostimulators go one step further. Rather than adding volume artificially like traditional fillers, these injectables stimulate collagen production for longer-lasting results. “We’ve seen some remarkable responses,” Somenek added.

And for those on the far end of the weight-loss spectrum, especially users of GLP-1s, more invasive procedures like full facelifts paired with fat grafting are being recommended. “There are no non-surgical devices that are going to be effective,” said Turer. Expect to pay up to $20,000 (£15,000) or more for a comprehensive overhaul.

With demand for these treatments up 50% in the past year, according to the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, RBF is no longer just a meme—it’s a full-blown tech-meets-beauty category. And thanks to advances in aesthetic medicine, the fix might just fit into your lunch break.
