This week, Google unveiled a new AI Mode shopping experience, designed to make the whole process — from browsing to buying — a lot less chaotic. Think of it as your digital personal shopper, stylist and savvy deal-hunter rolled into one.

“AI Mode” taps into Google’s Gemini tech and its massive Shopping Graph — which now includes over 50 billion product listings — to offer personalised inspiration, up-to-date info and smart suggestions. That means whether you’re after a rainy-day tote for Portland or a wedding-guest dress with pockets, AI Mode gets it. It even considers weather, travel needs and your personal style, refreshing billions of listings every hour to keep suggestions fresh and relevant, Lilian Rincon from Google explains.

Let’s say you ask for a cute travel bag. Instead of generic listings, you’ll get a visual feed curated to your tastes — sleek panels filled with colour options, availability, and reviews. Want something water-resistant with easy-access compartments? AI Mode dynamically updates results as you narrow your search. These features are coming soon to U.S. users — and if you’re someone who shops with their whole personality, you’ll love how specific you can get.

But the real magic kicks in when it’s time to buy. Thanks to the new agentic checkout, you can tap “track price” on any item, enter your size, colour and budget, then sit back. When there’s a price drop, AI Mode will alert you — and if you’re ready, you can simply hit “buy for me”. Behind the scenes, Google handles the checkout with Google Pay, adding the item to your cart and checking out securely on your behalf. Retail therapy, minus the effort.
