Prevention has always been at the heart of medicine—it’s even enshrined in the Hippocratic Oath. Yet, in practice, healthcare often focuses on reacting to illness rather than preventing it.
This gap is exactly what Neko Health, co-founded by Hjalmar Nilsonne and Daniel Ek (yes, the founder of Spotify), aims to change. Launched in Stockholm in 2018, Neko Health is pioneering a future where healthcare is proactive, personalised, and data-driven.

“In the UK, you are required to do an MOT on your car. However, when it comes to your body, you often need to break down before seeing a doctor,” explained Nilsonne in an official statement.
Luckily, you don’t have to live in Sweden to try it out. Neko Health’s Marylebone outpost opened at the end of 2024. With its sleek spa-like design its redefining the healthcare experience. ““We opened in September. It’s grown like crazy since then. We’ve got a very long waitlist,” Lead GP at Neko Health, Dr. Sam Rodgers, tells The Modems. (In case you’re wondering, over 22,000 people are on that ever expanding list.)
Patients undergo a full Body Scan, the £299 check-up maps millions of health data points in just minutes. Using over 70 sensors, the scan evaluates cardiovascular health, metabolic risks, and skin abnormalities, offering insights that could otherwise take weeks or months to uncover.

“Our initial product vision was: imagine downloading all your health data in under a minute, at virtually no cost. While we’re not quite there yet, we’ve made significant strides,” says Nilsonne. The scan now collects 15 GB of high-quality health data in under 15 minutes, making it an attractive option for busy individuals.
“There’s a huge number of people out there walking around with high blood pressure, completely unaware of it,” Dr Rodgers tells me, “In terms of metabolic health, 1 in 3 adults in the UK is potentially pre-diabetic. And for skin, the UK is in the top four globally for new cases of skin cancer per year.”

What sets Neko Health apart is its emphasis on actionable insights. “What we don’t want to do is collect a lot of information about someone’s health, but for very little of it to be actionable,” Dr. Rodgers tells me after my scan. Patients receive their results immediately and have a one-on-one consultation with a doctor, who walks them through their data and offers personalised advice. The results are also stored in an app, allowing patients to track changes over time.
“Thinking preventively, we aim to identify risks before they develop into diseases,” says Dr. Rodgers, “For example, if someone’s blood pressure is rising year on year, we can intervene early, advising on diet, exercise, or other lifestyle changes.”
The data-driven approach certainly resonates with today’s trends, “We’re used to knowing the nutritional content of our food or when the next train arrives, but health has lagged behind,” says Dr. Rodgers, “People want to feel empowered about their health, and having access to transparent, actionable data enables them to take control.”

A 360 panel of sensors and cameras points downward, forming the heart of Neko Health’s full-body scanning process.
With 80% of members opting for annual scans, Neko Health is clearly tapping into a demand for proactive care. For £299, patients not only receive a thorough check-up but also the peace of mind that comes with understanding their health trajectory.
As Dr. Rodgers puts it, “If 80 to 90% of illnesses are preventable, why don’t we try and prevent them in the first place?” It’s a question that Neko Health seems poised to answer.
My Review of Neko’s London Health Scan:
Stepping into the Neko Health clinic feels like entering a dreamy, teal-coloured sanctuary that somehow combines the vibes of a high-end spa and a Pinterest mood board.
The space oozes calm, with plush chairs that hug you like a boucle-clad friend and nurses buzzing around a futuristic pod in the centre of the room – probably where they recharge your emotional batteries. The soft, flowing curtains? Absolute *chefs kiss* Instagram backdrop material.

After soaking up the aesthetic and being handed some, shall we say, “fashion-forward” grey slippers (think Yeezy vibes) I filled out my patient form. And just like that, the journey into my health data began.
Next stop, what I can only describe as the Lemon Sorbet Sci-Fi Zone. Imagine a spaceship designed by someone who binge-watches ‘Black Mirror’ but also loves pastels. The room is a sleek creamy yellow with a glowing circular floor panel that suggests, “Stand here if you want to be teleported to an alien skincare consultation.” Spoiler alert: it’s actually for your full-body scan.

I handed over my robe—yes, you’re given a yellow bathrobe that wouldn’t look out of place in a Wes Anderson film—and stepped into what felt like an upright tanning bed. Except, instead of a golden glow, I got scanned by over 70 sensors collecting 50 million data points in mere minutes. Cameras surrounded me, documenting every inch of my body in terrifyingly high resolution. Don’t worry; it’s all very clinical (but also a little humbling when you realise every mole, wrinkle, and skin fold is being cataloged).
The scan itself was quick—around 10 minutes total—and included additional tests like an ECG, laser imaging, and even a blood test. The Neko technology is designed to detect potential health issues early, from skin conditions and cardiovascular diseases to diabetes and metabolic syndromes. Think of it as a hyper-efficient MOT for your body, but instead of a garage, you’re in a pastel spaceship.

Once the scans were done, I was ushered through a revolving circular door into a minimalist grey cocoon. Here, I sat with a doctor to dissect my results. The sleek screen on the wall displayed all my health data. The results are instant. Within moments, I had access to a full breakdown and the level of detail was mind-blowing. Every mole was documented so that in future visits (recommended yearly), they can track even the smallest changes. Turns out, I have the heart health of a 31-year-old (despite being 34), but I need to keep an eye on my blood sugar. The advice was practical, and the staff were warm and attentive, making the whole experience feel less clinical and more personal. ‘Patients’ can also see their results on the Neko app, so that you can track your progress over time.

Was the decor gimmicky? A little. But honestly, I’d take this over a traditional hospital any day—no fluorescent lighting, no weird antiseptic smell, and no depressing waiting rooms. For £299, it’s not cheap, but compared to other options out there, it’s a bargain considering the depth of the data and the ease of the experience.
Would I return? Absolutely. With my data saved for future comparisons, the yearly check-up feels like a no-brainer. For anyone curious, you can learn more about the scan at Neko Health. Trust me, your body will thank you.
