Biohacking Beauty: Meet Nez Hasan, Founder of Hairgredients

From tattooing thousands of brows to creating one of the UK’s most buzzed-about miracle oils, Nez Hasan’s journey into beauty biohacking is rooted in real skin, real results – and a whole lot of lived experience.

A pioneer in the field of semi-permanent makeup, Nez built her reputation one brow at a time, with a loyal client base that includes influencers, beauty editors, and A-listers who swear by her naturalistic microblading technique. Her deep understanding of the face – not just in terms of symmetry and aesthetics, but skin health – led her to a more holistic approach to beauty: one that blends traditional techniques with cutting-edge science.

Now the founder of Hairgredients, a cult brand loved for its potent, all-natural growth oil, Nez opens up about the trauma of over-plucking in the early 2000s, the dangers of tech overstimulation, and why her morning routine now starts with affirmations instead of caffeine.

From derma stamps to LED masks, Nez shares what actually works, what’s just hype – and the one wellness trend she’ll never try again…

My journey into beauty biohacking was sparked by…

Having done thousands of microbladed brows, one of the first things my clients mentioned was, “My eyebrows are thinning,” or, “I over-plucked and was a victim of the ’90s.” This led me to start my journey in creating something that would become a daily beauty essential – something you can’t live without.

Eyebrows are…

The most important feature on your face; your expression, your own beauty signature. Thinking about how we moisturise our skin daily or use SPF, we should also be using a product daily that’s natural yet effective to stop thinning and take care of brows before it’s too late. So came the brow mask, which then evolved into an all-in-one miracle scalp and brow mask. During the process, we noticed how the oil transformed hair within weeks – plus the lashes. If you have healthy follicles, Aiya Inc. Miracle Oil is designed to stimulate while deeply nourishing your brows, hair, and lashes.

A beauty tech device I’ve just ordered is

An LED mask, as I can see so many of my friends are happy with it, so I’m excited to try it. But currently, I am using my own brand’s scalp massager, which is also an oil applicator – two in one, and easy on my hair oiling days.

Beauty tech tools I use are…

The Aiya Inc. Terma Stamp on my scalp, brows, and skin once a week (on my skin I apply The Ordinary HA). I also use a Gua Sha on my face. Being over 40 now, I’m trying my best to keep my skin tight and lifted naturally.

Morning rituals set the tone – what does yours look like?

This is a very new thing, but I wake up and the first thing I do is open affirmations for a positive mindset, self-love, and vagus nerve reset sounds to relieve any stress or tension in my body and mind. I’m known to be an overthinker, which causes anxiety during the day. I spend 20 minutes in bed with this little daily ritual, eyes closed, before I start my day. Then I wash my face with cold water, take vitamin D oil drops, drink a glass of water, and I’m ready.

Sleep hacks…

The past few months, instead of scrolling on social media before I drift off, I open healing sounds – sometimes reiki, sometimes affirmations – and let them play through the night. My life has changed with this, and it’s helped me stop using social media daily. My mindset has shifted, and I’m all in for protecting my peaceful bubble.

Something I swear by…

Lymphatic drainage is a must for me. I’ve been doing it for at least 10 years. I’ve tried several techniques, but my favourite is the classic version. Before summer, I like to go for the Brazilian version. I especially love it before a flight and after, with plenty of water.

When it comes to supplements…

I honestly struggle in this field. It takes me ages to build a habit. I take supplements for a few days, then I forget for a whole month. Currently, all I’m taking is vitamin D and magnesium at night – it’s helped stop my panic attacks and improved my sleep. I recently made a supplement corner in the kitchen next to my coffee machine and placed vitamin D, B2, and K3 there. I’m waiting to build the habit while I make my morning coffee with my colourful takeaway cups.

Cold plunges and saunas…

I was born one minute before the devil – I love the hottest showers, and if my daughter goes in after me, she gives me a telling-off! I love the sauna too and hot healing baths. I have tried a cold plunge. I managed to stay in for about 15 seconds and still don’t understand the level of pain it caused my brain.

Overhyped beauty-tech trends…

Pore vacuums and at-home exfoliants. These can be very damaging. Even strips – best to just get a HydraFacial every 4–6 months.

If I could invent a beauty tech product, it would be a…

Personalised scalp health scanner and treatment system. Scalp health is often neglected or poorly understood, yet it’s crucial for hair growth and skin health. It would go perfectly with my oils. An app to show if they need reapplying that week, if exfoliation is needed, or if the scalp isn’t hydrated enough. A handheld tool that connects to the app would be amazing – like having a skincare routine for your head.

Ingredients I swear by?

Retinol, hyaluronic acid, and niacinamide (B3).

When it comes to tech overstimulation impacting my wellbeing…

I’ve seen so many negative effects from tech overstimulation. That’s why I’ve learned to let go of social media and avoid scrolling at night. I now open sound healing instead. Scrolling caused my sleep to be disrupted – I couldn’t sleep earlier than 1am or would wake in the night. It led to daytime stress, fatigue, and low attention span. My mind was overstimulated, which triggered anxiety more frequently. We have to learn to stick to a screen-free wind-down routine at least one hour before bed to support melatonin and cortisol balance.

The beauty industry is an issue when…

We see terms like “clean beauty,” “non-toxic,” or “chemical-free.” I’m not an expert, but I’ve read that this is misleading. Everything is a chemical. What matters is dose, formulation, and testing – not whether it’s natural. We should be more educated on this. I wish more well-known skin experts and doctors spoke more about product ingredients weekly.

I want to add to my morning routine…

It’s hard to do because you need to wake up much earlier than usual. But daily morning sunlight exposure is something I want to include. I’ve read a lot about it. Within the first 30 to 60 minutes of waking, you should get 5–15 minutes of direct sunlight on your face and arms without sunglasses or glass. Even cloudy days work – it’s about brightness, not heat. It’s free and proven to boost energy, mood, regulate cortisol, improve sleep, and more.

A piece of advice for my 18-year-old self…

Ignore your extremely oily skin – you look glowing! Don’t take Roaccutane when they offer it to you. By the time I finished, I was on 70mg – the highest I’ve heard of – and I’m still not ready to talk about the side effects. I was born in 1984. Growing up, I didn’t have skincare. All I had was Nivea cream, and we only used it occasionally for fun because we saw it on TV ads. I had no makeup and didn’t wear any until my mid-20s. I’d advise myself to wear SPF daily. I didn’t start using it until I was nearly 30. The only time I used it was on holiday while tanning. But luckily, my skin has been great, and I haven’t had major damage.

Collagen in topical creams

Most underrated ingredient?
Azelaic acid doesn’t get all the flashy marketing like retinol and vitamin C, but it has so many benefits and works well with other products.

Biggest skincare regret?
Roaccutane – 50/50. My skin is extremely dry and it’s been a year since I stopped. There were many disadvantages.

Beauty hack that actually works?
Derma roller/derma stamp on skin, scalp, and brows. So many benefits to needling.

Coffee, matcha, or mushroom latte?
What is a mushroom latte? Matcha – since I visited Tokyo (best trip of my life). Real matcha, not the kind flavoured with blueberry syrup. These days, I have a skinny latte around 9.30am, then just matcha after lunch.

Most-used emojis?
