This Personal Safety Alarm Is Going Viral On TikTok

If you’re a female solo traveller, chances are you’ve already packed the usual suspects: passport, charger, emergency snacks. But there’s one extra item that’s becoming the ultimate non-negotiable—especially if you’re going it alone. Enter She’s Birdie, the pocket-sized personal alarm turning heads (and raising noise levels) across TikTok.

Retailing for just £18.40 on Amazon, this tiny device might just be your next travel MVP. Designed to be clipped onto your keychain or bag, She’s Birdie sets off a seriously loud siren and flashing strobe light when activated—ideal for drawing attention and deterring unwanted situations, whether you’re walking home at night or navigating an unfamiliar city.

“When threatened, turn on the loud siren and the Birdie flashing strobe light to distract attention and avoid an attack,” says the product description. It’s marketed as a companion for daily life—from walking your dog to hopping on public transport. But where it’s really gaining traction is with women travelling solo.

TikToker Mariana (@mydlvz1) demonstrates the device in a viral video, showing how easy it is to use: “You attach it to your keychain. If you’re outside and somebody creepy is coming up to you, you unlatch this and then it gets super loud.” She warns it’s not one for quiet settings: “I could only do it outside or people inside would get freaked out.”

Another content creator, @susanluckhardt, doesn’t mince words: “Not to sound dramatic or anything but this product could literally save lives. I personally believe you can never be too safe. I’ve even taught my four-year-old daughter to use this.”

And the tech factor? Unlike fumbling around with pepper spray (or downloading yet another tracking app), She’s Birdie keeps things simple. One TikToker on the brand’s official account says: “Instead of having to fumble with your pepper spray, you just pull this tab and it makes a really loud noise. I personally would just use Birdie over pepper spray.”

TikTok user @hannahchasinghappy brought the alarm on a solo holiday to Portugal and said it made her “feel much more safe.” The idea? It’s not just a gadget, but a small confidence boost tucked into your pocket—“hopefully a deterrent,” she adds, as explained by Esther Marshall from DailyMail, “and something that’ll keep you safe.”

Affordable, practical, and loud enough to wake the neighbourhood? That’s a travel essential we can get behind.
