If you’ve opened WhatsApp recently and spotted a mysterious blue circle lurking in the bottom-right corner of your chat screen, you’re not alone—and chances are, you’re also not thrilled about it.

Meta has quietly rolled out a new AI-powered chatbot shortcut in WhatsApp for UK users, and let’s just say… it’s not been met with glowing reviews. In fact, it’s sparked full-blown digital rage.

The button in question links directly to Meta AI, the company’s artificial intelligence assistant designed to answer questions, suggest recipes, or give you ideas for your next big project—all without leaving the app. According to Meta, the feature aims to “enhance social experiences and unlock new possibilities.”, as Shivali Best explains from Mail Online.

But users aren’t buying it.

“Okay, how do I get rid of Meta AI in WhatsApp? The button is constantly hovering in the way and I will never ever use it,” one user fumed on X (formerly Twitter).

Another added: “Can you remove that AI button from WhatsApp please before I throw my phone into the [Manchester] Ship Canal.”

And the dramatic declarations didn’t stop there. “God I fing hate AI, now my WhatsApp has this fing AI button I can’t remove, I hate it, I hate it, I HATE IT,” another user raged.

To be clear, the Meta AI button isn’t reading your chats (at least not unless you engage with it directly). Meta has reassured that “Meta AI can only read messages you share with it,” and that your personal conversations remain end-to-end encrypted.

Still, privacy concerns are bubbling up. “Is this some creepy spyware?” one user questioned, while another warned, “I do not like AIs spying on my private conversations!”

Adding fuel to the fire, users who tried asking Meta AI how to get rid of the button were hilariously misled. The chatbot reportedly told people to disable the feature in settings… a setting that doesn’t actually exist.

As one user tweeted, “The AI feature in WhatsApp hallucinated about how to remove it and told me to change a setting that doesn’t exist,” alongside a very unhelpful screenshot.

The frustration seems to boil down to two things: nobody asked for this, and there’s no option to remove it.

“Massive ‘ask AI’ button WhatsApp omg just leave me alone man,” one user wrote. “Bro I use WhatsApp to message work, like in what world do I need AI for it. STOP FORCING AI ON MEEE.”

Moral of the story? Don’t mess with people’s messaging apps—especially when they’re just trying to send a voice note and not accidentally pitch a chatbot their dinner plans.
