Hey Upper East Siders, looks like Gossip Girl is back—but this time, she’s in your AI.
Meta, just announced that Kristen Bell, the iconic voice of Gossip Girl, will be one of the celebrity voices for its new AI chatbot. Alongside Bell, you’ll also be able to chat with AI versions of Dame Judi Dench, John Cena, Awkwafina, and Keegan-Michael Key.
Meta is tapping into our collective nostalgia, in getting Kristen to voice its AI
Kristen Bell featured in the original series starring Blake Lively, and also reprised her role as the sassy narrator in the 2021 Gossip Girl sequel. Despite being the voice we all associate with Manhattan’s elite, she actually had no clue where the show was filmed. In an interview with Bustle, the 44-year-old actress revealed, “The funny thing is, as Gossip Girl, I was only on a microphone in Los Angeles; I was never shooting with them.”
Meta’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg unveiled this star-studded AI lineup during the company’s annual Connect conference. “I think that voice is going to be a way more natural way of interacting with AI than text,” he told attendees.
But that’s not all—Meta’s ChatGPT-like chatbot is also levelling up. It can now recognise objects in your photos and dish out info about them. Want to tweak your pics? Just tell Meta AI what changes you want, and it’ll handle the rest.

Meta is hoping this celebrity-infused AI fares better than its last attempt. In September 2023, they rolled out AI chatbots with “personality,” featuring stars like Kendall Jenner and Snoop Dogg, only to shut it down less than a year later.
During the conference, Zuckerberg also gave us a sneak peek at Orion, Meta’s first working prototype of augmented-reality glasses. He described them as “the most advanced glasses the world has ever seen.” Remember those Apple VR goggles that launched earlier this year for a cool $3,500 (£2,600)? Meta seems ready to offer a more accessible alternative.
The company’s recent endeavours seem to be paying off; Meta AI now boasts 500 million users, with 185 million returning weekly. Jeremy Goldman of research firm Emarketer called the number “jaw-dropping.” He added, “Meta has transformed from just a social media company into an AI powerhouse. Mr. Zuckerberg’s move to celebrity voices is not just for fun—it’s a direct challenge to OpenAI, with an emphasis on real-world utility.”
