After months of hype, Spotify Wrapped 2024 has officially dropped, revealing your most-streamed artists, songs, and embarrassing guilty pleasures of the year. While Wrapped usually brings a wave of excitement and social media bragging rights, this year’s version has hit a sour note with many users.

Fans on X (formerly Twitter) didn’t hold back, calling the visuals “boring” and accusing the platform of leaning too heavily on artificial intelligence. One user vented, “Spotify making us wait all that time and Wrapped has the most boring visuals and slideshow in years.” Another added, “#SpotifyWrapped is lame this year and stinks of AI all over it with its ugly design.”

Gone are the deeper dives into user habits that Wrapped has become known for, like listening auras, music cities, and top genres. Instead, the feature has been criticised for feeling generic and uninspired. “We were expecting a deep dive into our musical soul, not a shallow splash in the kiddie pool,” one user quipped. Another asked, “All that wait for WHAT? Where are the fun extras?”

This year’s Wrapped does offer some new AI-powered features. Premium users can create custom playlists based on their Wrapped data, and there’s even a Wrapped AI podcast hosted by Google’s NotebookLM tool, where two AI personalities break down your results. For fans who enjoy an interactive twist, there’s also an AI DJ that narrates your top songs like a personal radio show. However, these additions haven’t been enough to appease critics.

Despite the backlash, Wrapped still highlights big milestones. Unsurprisingly, Taylor Swift reigns supreme as Spotify’s most-streamed artist globally for the second year running, with over 26.6 billion streams. Her album The Tortured Poets Department: The Anthology took the top spot for global streams, cementing her dominance. Following Swift were The Weeknd, Bad Bunny, Drake, and Billie Eilish.
