The Apple logo on your iPhone is actually a button

The iPhone has a secret, and we reveal how to use it

Surprise, surprise. Apple has sneakily hidden an important button in the iPhone. The ever-clever US tech titan added a ‘secret’ button to its newer generations of iPhone, and you might have not even noticed it.

With intuitive and useful functions a-plenty, no wonder most of us feel lost without our phones. Now, the curious minds of TikTok have revealed yet another surprising feature hidden in plain sight, the back of your phone. Yes, you read that correctly.

‘Back Tap’, as the feature is called, requires two or three taps to execute your desired actions. You can get as creative as you want and programme the Back Tap to follow any command you wish for or would make your life easier. The function uses the accelerometer in the iPhone to detect the two or three taps. Back Tap is not set by default but can easily be adjusted in the Accessibility menu. Two or three light taps on the logo and your iPhone could take a screenshot, summon Siri, check the weather or anything else that you find handy. It is a gimmick for boundless imagination.

The list of possible options includes Shake, Assistive Touch, Notification Centre, VoiceOver and Magnifiers. But perhaps the smartest move that Apple came up with when it comes to the Back Tap feature is that they opened it up to Shortcuts, giving the users the power to take advantage of the new button in the most creative ways.

The addition came with the launch of iOS 14 software, and according to How To Geek, it’s available on iPhone 8 and higher.

Of course, due to the iPhone’s fragility the necessity to have a phone case is an inconvenience in the way of Back Tap’s creativity, so we will just have to wait and see what ingenious solution Apple comes up with next.
