If you thought train station snacks peaked at meal deals and lukewarm pasties, think again. Brighton Station just got a serious tech upgrade in the form of Robo Pop – the UK’s first fully automated ice cream vending machine, complete with an actual robot arm whipping up Mr Whippy-style swirls.
Launched on July 11, the futuristic dessert dispenser is stationed just outside the main entrance (next to Naked Chips and opposite the Real Patisserie) and promises to make you rethink everything you knew about vending machines. Instead of pressing a button and hoping for the best, you’ll be greeted by a glossy, glass-panelled booth with LED lighting that looks straight out of a sci-fi film.

Ordering is a touchscreen affair: pick from six sauces (including salted caramel, chocolate fudge, Biscoff, cookies and cream, strawberry, and a tropical mango and coconut), then choose your toppings – crushed cookies or freeze-dried strawberries. From there, a robotic hand gets to work, swirling and dressing your custom creation in just 30 seconds.
On its website, Robo Pop calls the concept “revolutionising,” saying: “Imagine stepping up to a vending machine and being greeted by a friendly robot, ready to serve you a perfectly swirled ice cream, topped with delicious sauce and delightful toppings. This isn’t just buying a snack – this is an experience.”

And because no launch is complete without a bit of fanfare, the first 100 customers scored a free ice cream, plus free balloons and a selfie zone to show off their AI-assisted dessert.
The vibe is part Willy Wonka, part Blade Runner – a sugary blend of nostalgia and next-gen tech. Whether you trust a robot with your dessert might depend on how adventurous you’re feeling, but with 24/7 availability and no awkward small talk, it’s a tempting alternative to your usual cone.

While this is the first UK outing for Robo Pop, the company isn’t stopping at Brighton. Plans are already in the works to roll the machines out nationwide – meaning it might not be long before your local station, shopping centre, or even cinema lobby has one of these techy treat-makers on standby.
Would you swap a stroll to the ice cream van for a few taps on a screen and a robot-arm flourish? If the answer is yes, Brighton Station might just be your new favourite summer detour.
