There was a time – not so long ago – when fashion media power was measured in glossy covers, ad pages and front-row seats.
Today, the real leverage lives somewhere far less obvious: inboxes, WhatsApp groups, creator feeds and algorithms.
Which is precisely why Future plc has just paid £39.9 million for SheerLuxe – with a further £40m dependent on performance – in a deal that quietly says everything about where media, marketing and technology are heading next.
On paper, it’s a fashion and beauty acquisition. In reality, it’s a strategic land-grab for trust, creators and data – the three things most traditional digital publishers lost while chasing scale. And yes, it should make every modern media founder sit up straighter.
Why This Deal Matters (Far Beyond Fashion)
The SheerLuxe acquisition brings the total cost of Future’s acquisitions to around £1.6bn over the last decade, roughly a third of its current market valuation. Investors liked what they saw: Future’s share price rose 3%, valuing the company at £524m following the announcement.

But the real story isn’t the price tag – it’s what Future bought. SheerLuxe is not a traditional publisher. It’s a social-first, creator-powered, Google-zero media ecosystem that monetises through commerce, talent, and native brand partnerships – not display ads or programmatic clutter.
SheerLuxe generated £12.6m in revenue and £5.1m EBITDA in the year to September 2025. Those margins alone would make most legacy publishers weep.
From Kitchen Table to Media Blueprint
Founded in 2007 by Georgie Coleridge Cole, SheerLuxe began life as a curated directory of online retailers – long before “curation” became marketing shorthand.
As Coleridge Cole explained in an official statement following the announcement, “When we launched in February 2007, we were digitally native in what was still a largely analogue world, and a kitchen table-found, digital startup, like ours, was often dismissed and ignored by traditional print media. That, however, proved to be our advantage.”

From the outset, SheerLuxe was built for outcomes, not impressions. “From day one, SheerLuxe was built with a clear and enduring mission. To educate, inspire, and entertain by connecting our audience with the very best brands and products to help them live their best lives,” she explained.
That mission translated into something rare in digital media: trust that converts.
Google Zero: The Anti-Algorithm Advantage
Perhaps the most quietly radical part of SheerLuxe’s model is its zero reliance on Google. “SheerLuxe is what we describe as Google Zero. That means zero reliance on Google, on PPC, on clickbait, or on artificial traffic strategies.”
In an era where AI-powered search is hollowing out publisher traffic, this is no small thing. SheerLuxe’s daily newsletter boasts a 60% open rate – powered entirely by first-party data, built slowly and organically over 19 years.
“Our audience comes to us directly, by choice, and because of the trust that we have built with them over time,” said Coleridge Cole. For a company like Future – which owns hundreds of vertical specialist brands – that level of algorithm immunity is gold dust.
The Creator Economy, But Make It Grown-Up
SheerLuxe didn’t bolt creators onto an existing newsroom. It built the newsroom around people. “Our team are not journalists behind desks. They are broadcasters, they are tastemakers, they are curators, they are influencers,” Coleridge Cole explains.
Long before “employee-generated content” became a buzzword, SheerLuxe turned its editors into talent – and its talent into brands. “Our model turns media brands into personality-led ecosystems, where trusted editorial creators, talent, and community sit at the centre, and monetisation flows naturally from that relationship.” This is the creator economy without the chaos: structured, scalable, and commercially disciplined.

A Media Brand That Lives in Women’s Lives
SheerLuxe’s reach now spans over 6 million people, supported by 2.4 million social followers, podcasts, YouTube, events, and a peer-to-peer community app.
Its ecosystem includes:
- The daily SheerLuxe newsletter
- SLMan
- LuxeGen (Gen Z-focused)
- Parenting From SheerLuxe
- The Gold Edition
- Business, Careers & Finance Editions
- A growing podcast and video network
- A community app for peer-to-peer connection
As Coleridge Cole explains, “They subscribe to our daily email, they read the content on our site, they follow, they listen, they watch our video, and they share and engage with what they see.” This is media as habit, not a one time visit.
Why Future Wanted SheerLuxe
In Future’s own words, the acquisition is about diversification, monetisation and creator-led engagement. “The acquisition marks a significant step in Future’s strategy to diversify its audience and accelerate content monetisation across high-growth sectors,” the company said in its official statement.
SheerLuxe now sits within Future’s Women and Luxury vertical, alongside brands such as Marie Claire and Who What Wear.
Future CEO Kevin Li Ying commented, “With a rare combination of strong growth characteristics and a loyal, high-value audience, SheerLuxe will be highly complementary to our portfolio.”
The Tech Stack Behind the Taste
Future brings what most creator-led brands eventually need: infrastructure at scale. That includes: Proprietary technology, Advanced data and insight, Global commercial teams And Monetisation expertise across platforms. For SheerLuxe, it means acceleration – without dilution.
“Importantly, SheerLuxe will continue to operate with editorial independence and brand autonomy,” Coleridge Cole assured readers.
AI, Trust and the Human Advantage
Perhaps the most future-facing part of Coleridge Cole’s statement is her positioning of SheerLuxe in the age of AI. “In a world where large language models are increasingly replacing third-party journalism and commoditise content, SheerLuxe stands apart. Our value lies in voice, perspective, and trusted human recommendation.”

This is where the deal feels especially relevant to female-focused media: community, discernment and lived experience are not easily automated.
What This Signals for the Industry
The SheerLuxe acquisition sends a clear message:
- Scale without trust is fragile
- Traffic without loyalty is risky
The future belongs to personality-led, tech-enabled, commerce-savvy ecosystems that women actually choose to spend time with.
“SheerLuxe has a unique ability to turn content into genuine conversation” said Hillary Kerr, SVP of Women and Luxury at Future, “Together, we are uniquely positioned to lead the global conversation on fashion, beauty, and luxury.”
The Bigger Picture
As SheerLuxe approaches its 20th anniversary, the brand is already eyeing the US, and further platform expansion – all while maintaining margins and momentum. “As proud as I am of what we’ve built over 19 years, we are more driven and ambitious than ever,” said Coleridge Cole
For Future, it’s a £40m investment in resilience. For the rest of the industry, it’s a wake-up call.
Because in 2026, the most powerful media brands don’t shout the loudest. They’re the ones women trust enough to open every single morning.
