Teachers are getting a tech upgrade! Tresham College in Kettering, Northamptonshire, has launched its Digital Innovation Hub, a state-of-the-art space designed to help educators harness the latest technology and create immersive learning experiences. Officially opened this week, the hub is packed with futuristic tools like virtual reality (VR) stations, augmented reality (AR) equipment, 3D printers, robots, and interactive displays.

A Safe Space for Teachers to Experiment
The hub offers more than just flashy gadgets. According to Yiannis Koursis, Chief Executive of The Bedford College Group, it’s about giving teachers the confidence to explore new ways of teaching.
“Teachers can experiment and learn different technologies to enhance the way we teach students,” Koursis explained to Andrea Pluck from the BBC.
For example, imagine a biology lesson where students can use VR to take a virtual tour of the human heart, exploring how it works in real-time. As Koursis puts it:
“It’s things like being able to use VR and AR to look into the heart and how the heart is working, so it’s really exciting.”

Training That Goes Beyond the Basics
The Digital Innovation Hub isn’t just about throwing tech into the classroom and hoping for the best. It’s addressing a common problem in education: investing in expensive tools that teachers don’t fully know how to use—or that fail to make a meaningful impact on teaching.
Mark Tinney, the hub’s manager, is on a mission to change that. He’ll be running workshops and hands-on sessions to show educators how to seamlessly integrate these technologies into their lessons.
“One of the problems that a lot of schools and colleges have is spending a lot of money on buying equipment and [then] getting teachers to use it, and it having an impact on teaching,” Tinney said.
“Training them on how to use it isn’t enough; we’ve got to follow that through, and that’s what this space is intended to do.”

Why It Matters
The Digital Innovation Hub isn’t just about cool tech—it’s about rethinking education. By equipping teachers with the skills to use cutting-edge tools, it’s paving the way for more engaging, hands-on learning experiences that prepare students for a tech-driven world.
Whether it’s exploring the human body in VR or using 3D printing to create prototypes, this hub is transforming how teachers teach—and how students learn. The future of education just got a serious upgrade.
