Searches for “smut books” on TikTok have jumped 78% over the last year, with #SmutTok now claiming a steamy 3% of all #BookTok content. Lovehoney credits much of the surge to fandom-favourite series like A Court of Thorns and Roses (ACOTAR, if you know, you know), which has taken social feeds — and bedsides — by storm.
Lovehoney’s research also reveals that 42% of Brits say reading erotica has led to sex or masturbation. Among Millennials and Gen Z, the numbers are even steamier: 63% of Millennial women and 60% of Gen Z women say they’re more likely to pick up a book with explicit content. And nearly half of Millennial men agree.
