Wedding season is here. The invites are rolling in. And if you’re single, your first thought probably isn’t “What shall I wear?” – it’s “Who am I bringing?” Or worse, “Can I even bring someone?”
New research from Tinder confirms what many singles already know: going solo to a wedding is not just emotionally draining – it’s expensive. According to a survey of 2,000 single Brits aged 18–35, 59% of young singles have shelled out over £200 for travel, gifts, and outfits just to attend a wedding alone. For over a third, the cost – or the awkwardness – is enough to decline the invite altogether.

Tinder’s solution? The +1 Fix – a brand new initiative that will contribute up to £150 towards the cost of taking a plus-one to a wedding this summer. The offer is open to up to 20 UK-based couples who matched on Tinder in 2025 and are heading to a wedding together.
The app’s data reveals that “wedding +1” mentions in bios are up 69% over the past year, and 77% of singles admit that they feel more excited and comfortable about attending weddings with a date. No surprise then that nearly half of men (45%) and a third of women (31%) are actively on the hunt for a wedding wingperson this year.

And the solo wedding guest experience? Not always ideal. Half of singles say they’ve been seated at the kids’ table or stuck at the back simply for being dateless. 44% have left early to dodge awkward moments, and 34% of Gen Z Brits say they’ve joked about bringing a fake date to fend off nosy relatives.
Still, weddings can be make-or-break moments. Tinder’s research shows that 63% of singles say attending one with a date helped them level up the relationship, and 75% say it triggered serious conversations about the future.

When it comes to picking a plus one, the vibe is more fun than formal. 40% of Brits would rather take someone new and exciting than someone they’re not all that into. Confidence, humour, and the ability to vibe with the bride’s nan are all top-tier traits.
