LinkedIn’s New AI Assistant Promises to Cut Hiring Time – But Should You Trust It?

Hiring has officially entered its AI era – and LinkedIn wants to be your new co-pilot.

With small businesses struggling to sift through endless CVs, identify real talent, and fill roles at speed, the platform has launched a first-of-its-kind tool: a LinkedIn AI assistant designed specifically to help companies “hire right the first time.”

And yes, it’s already earning rave reviews. “Finding talent who clears our high bar can take forever. With LinkedIn’s AI-assistant, I was able to fill a role in a matter of weeks. It’s great to see how LinkedIn is evolving to help us find incredible talent without slowing us down,” says Max Mayblum, Founder & CEO at Givers.

A New Hiring Co-Pilot

LinkedIn’s pitch is simple: Instead of drowning in applications, let AI do the heavy lifting. The AI assistant automatically shortlists top talent, generates candidate summaries, and even highlights skills, experience, and mutual connections – all the things you’d normally spend hours combing through manually.

The tool turns LinkedIn’s 1 billion global professionals into a curated shortlist of people who might actually be perfect for the job – not just algorithmically adjacent.

Finding Talent Before They Find You

One of the assistant’s most compelling features is its ability to surface talent first. Instead of waiting for applications, the assistant recommends 25 great-fit candidates daily, letting employers invite them to apply with one click.

And it learns as it goes. The more feedback you give, the more tailored the selection becomes – essentially training the assistant to understand your company’s culture, needs, and non-negotiables.

This is where LinkedIn’s longstanding data advantage shines. It knows who’s hiring, who’s looking, who’s applying, and how roles overlap – meaning it can surface talent that human recruiters might easily miss.

From Your Words to the Right Hire

Perhaps the most interesting part? You can describe your dream hire in your own words – no jargon, no HR dictionary required. “Your AI-assistant gets it and finds candidates who actually fit, not just those who match a few keywords.”

In other words: no more guessing which synonyms recruiters expect you to use. The assistant interprets natural language and converts it into qualifications and candidate criteria. It’s hiring made intuitive – even if you’re a first-time founder who has never written a job spec before.

The Fine Print: How to Use It

To access the AI assistant, you must:

  • Be using LinkedIn on desktop
  • Choose to promote your job post
  • Be posting in English
  • Start the job post from linkedin.com (not the mobile app)

Once activated, the tool helps draft your job post, sort candidates, and invite daily matches.

It’s clearly designed with small businesses and startups in mind – the ones without full HR teams or endless time to refine hiring processes.

Is It Trustworthy?

LinkedIn is very clear on this part: the AI assistant does not make hiring decisions.

You’re still responsible for:

  • Reviewing recommendations
  • Editing AI-generated job descriptions
  • Verifying candidate information
  • Making the final call

The assistant’s content is passed through LinkedIn’s filters, but – as the company warns – “the feature may produce surprises or mistakes.”

Transparency remains front and centre. If LinkedIn is uncertain about a qualification match, it flags this with a grey question mark (?) – a small but important design feature signalling that the tool isn’t pretending to be infallible.

Sorting Applicants: A New Kind of Precision

The assistant categorises candidates into:

  • Top Fit: meets all must-have qualifications + percentage of preferred
  • Maybe: meets must-haves but falls below the preferred threshold
  • Not a Fit: doesn’t meet must-haves

You can adjust the thresholds anytime – making it more flexible than a traditional applicant tracking system.

And the stat LinkedIn wants you to remember? AI-assisted jobs fill six days faster according to US data from July 2025. In a hiring landscape where speed and quality rarely coexist, that’s a headline in itself.
