This 7 Year Old Is The ‘Mozart’ Of Coding

Imagine landing a job offer before you’ve even hit your teens—or, in this case, before you’ve outgrown your Harry Potter obsession. Sergey, a seven-year-old from St. Petersburg, Russia, is living that reality. Known for his coding tutorials on YouTube, Sergey has been offered a position as Head of Corporate Training by Pro32, a Russian IT security firm. There’s just one catch: Russian law won’t let him start paid work until he’s 14.

A Young Prodigy in the Making

Sergey’s coding journey began when he started watching his older sister learn programming. According to his dad, Kirill, what started as a family learning project quickly turned into something extraordinary.
“After a month, our help was no longer needed, and after two, Sergey was so carried away that he overtook everyone,” Kirill told Victoriya Holland and Lucy Hooker at the BBC.

At just seven, Sergey has more than 3,500 subscribers on his YouTube channel, where he breaks down programming languages like Python and Unity, and even dives into neural networks—the backbone of AI technology. He’s gained a loyal following for his step-by-step tutorials delivered with an infectious enthusiasm in Russian and occasionally broken English.

From YouTube Star to Job Offer

Sergey’s online presence caught the eye of Pro32’s CEO, Igor Mandik, who believes the young coder’s talents extend beyond just programming.
“For me, he is kind of a Mozart,” Mandik said.
“I’m absolutely sure that when he reaches 14, he’ll be a guru of teaching and a guru of developing.”

The company has already offered Sergey a future position but isn’t waiting for him to turn 14 to start working together. Mandik has spoken with Sergey’s parents about potential collaborations in the meantime.

More Than Just a Coder

Sergey isn’t all about coding, though. When he’s not programming, he’s busy playing chess, reading Harry Potter, or perfecting his piano skills. He even plans to share videos of his musical performances online, showing off a creative side that’s as impressive as his technical skills.

Mandik believes Sergey’s teaching abilities are just as exceptional as his coding. He envisions Sergey inspiring not only developers but also Pro32’s sales and accounting teams. As for the salary? That’s still up for discussion, with Mandik joking,
“We have to wait for seven years. Then we will definitely start a conversation about his salary.”
