If you’ve got a mysterious box of tangled chargers, old-school consoles, and chunky mobile phones stashed somewhere in your attic, don’t throw it out just yet — it could be worth hundreds.

According to a new study by gadget insurance company Protect Your Bubble, your dusty tech relics could now be collector gold, with some gadgets fetching upwards of £700 on eBay.

Leading the charge is the Sony Walkman TPS-L2 — aka the OG portable music player, which first dropped in 1979. It’s now selling for an average of £728.76 online. That’s right — your old cassette player could now pay for your next city break.

Phones are also getting the retro-luxe treatment. If you happen to own a Motorola Microtac 9800X, you might be sitting on £669.14. And that chunky Motorola Dynatac 8000X? That retro brick might net you nearly £300.

“Nostalgia sells — and when it comes to retro tech, some devices are worth a small fortune,” Protect Your Bubble said. “Whether it’s classic mobile phones or beloved gaming consoles, eBay remains a hotspot for collectors and tech enthusiasts looking to cash in.”

But it’s not just phones raking in the cash. Retro gadgets are where the big bucks are. Aside from the Walkman, the TurboExpress handheld console is now going for £447.46 on average. “You can’t really get more retro than this,” said Protect Your Bubble. “It competed with the Game Boy and looks like it’s finally beaten its rival — at least in one regard.”

Even the MiniDisc player, once the height of early-2000s audio cool, is making a comeback. The Sony MiniDisc MZ-RH1 now averages £329.31. Add the Sony Discman D-50, Atari Jaguar, and even the Panasonic 3DO to the list of vintage gems cashing in.

So what does this all mean? That drawer full of ’90s tech that seemed like clutter last week might actually be your new side hustle.

“If you’ve got an old phone or gaming console gathering dust, now might be the time to cash in,” the report added. “Particularly if you’re sitting on a classic Nokia or iPhone, a vintage Walkman, or a beloved Nintendo/Xbox console. Retro tech continues to attract serious buyers in 2025!”
