I Tried GHD’s New AI “Curl Finder” Quiz – Here’s How It Went

As someone who’s spent far too long scrolling TikTok for “beachy wave tutorials” only to end up looking like a humidity victim, I’m no stranger to curl confusion. So when GHD launched their new AI-powered Curl Finder quiz, promising to match me to my ideal tool based on my vibe, hair texture and aesthetic, I had to try it.

Spoiler: I got beach curls, and honestly? The robot got it right.

The quiz is part of GHD’s big leap into beauty-tech. It uses AI-generated images to help users figure out which curl type suits them best – and crucially, which tool to buy to get the look. You answer six questions about your hair length (long), texture (wavy), curl goals (beachy and breezy), and overall vibe (casual but cool), and the algorithm crunches it all to recommend your perfect match.

Mine? The new GHD Chronos Curve Conical Wand (£189), which the quiz says is the key to achieving effortless beach curls. The tool itself looks like the kind of thing that would be locked in a glass case at Selfridges – sleek, matte black, and smarter than my last phone upgrade.

What I appreciated most was the quiz’s clarity. It skips the jargon and instead speaks fluent millennial – “low-key but always serving”, “bobs, crops and pixies”, “my jawline is doing the most.” It’s refreshingly fun, but backed by clever tech and professional approval. Every AI-generated hair look used in the quiz was vetted by GHD’s styling team to make sure it still passed the real-life vibe check.

Jeroen Temmerman, GHD’s CEO, said the goal was to address “curl confusion” using tech. “A recent survey discovered that women do not know which curling tool to choose for their desired curl look,” he told Alessandro Carrara from Cosmetics Business. “This is a strategic step in transforming the consumer journey – simplifying choice through technology, while deepening education and personalisation.”

And while AI can feel a bit scary to some, GHD’s take doesn’t replace stylists – it just helps you shop smarter. No filters, no fantasy hair promises – just a faster way to get the look you actually want, without ending up with a drawer full of heat tools you’ll never use.

So, am I a beach curl girl now? Apparently yes – and I’ve got the algorithm to thank.
