Meta’s latest update is here to solve that very headache: Shared Access. It’s essentially co-working for your Instagram account, letting you invite people you trust to help manage it – without handing over your sacred password.

At its core, Shared Access is designed for three types of users: creators juggling collabs, business owners needing inbox support, and friends running “joint custody” over a pet’s page. “This can be useful in situations where you need to collaborate with others on one account,” Instagram explains. Think of it as your digital PA who can schedule posts, answer DMs, or boost ads while you sip an oat flat white.

The nitty-gritty: you can invite up to two other accounts to join your own. If you’re signed up for Meta Verified, you can bump that number up to nine – a mini content team at your fingertips. But cancel the subscription and poof – those extra invites disappear faster than a story after 24 hours.

What your collaborators can do is surprisingly flexible. They can post, like, comment, and if it’s a professional account, even run ads and check insights. What they can’t do is lock you out, change your username, or hand the keys to someone else. In other words, they’re babysitting, not adopting.

You’re still in control. You can revoke access whenever, toggle who gets inbox or Story privileges, and even check what actions your co-managers are taking. Yes, you’ll know who’s liking endless cat reels on your business profile.

The invite process is simple: head to your profile, tap Menu, select Shared Access, and send an invite. The recipient has seven days to accept before it expires, meaning there’s no awkward limbo of “did you see my request?” lurking in the ether.

There’s one caveat: it’s not available for teens, or users in the UK and EU. So if you’re in London, you’re still stuck with old-school password-sharing (and those dreaded “suspicious login attempt” alerts).

For the rest, Shared Access feels like a small but mighty update. No more WhatsApp-ing your login details at midnight. No more panicking when your business partner logs in from a new device. Just smoother collaboration – and a little more peace of mind.
